Zhongqiang Wang is a graduate of Northwest A & F University (B.S.) and the Australian National University where he completed his Ph.D. under the supervision of Professor Chris J. Easton.

Zhongqiang then moved back to China to work with Professor Yongzheng Chen at the Zunyi Medical University, on areas of development of novel protein engineering techniques for bacterial cytochrome P450 monooxygenases for applications in organic synthesis, using nonproteinogenic amino acids.
